New Horror Film Pendulum, Featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor, Gets U.S. Theatrical Release with First Look Insights
Vertical Acquires U.S. Distribution Rights to Horror Film “Pendulum”
Vertical has secured the U.S. distribution rights for “Pendulum,” the debut film directed by Mark Heyman, known for his BAFTA-nominated work on “Black Swan.” The movie is set for a wide release on January 1, 2027.
Produced by the acclaimed Darren Aronofsky of Protozoa, along with Jacob Jaffke from Motel Mojave and Dave Caplan from C2, “Pendulum” features a notable cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Phoebe Dynevor, Norman Reedus, and two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver.
In the gripping narrative crafted by Heyman, a married couple, Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail (Dynevor), travel to a new-age retreat in New Mexico in search of healing after a traumatic experience. However, Patrick grows wary of the retreat’s enigmatic leader (Weaver) as Abigail becomes increasingly enchanted by her. As paranoia escalates, the couple faces a critical decision: whether the retreat offers genuine solace or conceals a sinister reality that threatens to unravel their lives.
The acquisition deal was brokered by Vertical’s Jarowey and SVP of Acquisitions Tony Piantedosi, alongside UTA Independent Film Group, CAA Media Finance, and WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers. International sales are being represented by Black Bear.
“This film is deeply personal, inspired by real and frightening experiences. Partnering with Vertical for its theatrical release is a dream come true,” said Heyman about the project.
Peter Jarowey, a partner at Vertical, remarked, “With outstanding performances from Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor, ‘Pendulum’ marks an impressive and terrifying debut for Mark Heyman. We are excited to collaborate with Darren, Jacob, and Dave and look forward to ushering in 2027 with a thrilling experience for audiences.”
Production credits for “Pendulum” include Aronofsky, Jaffke, and Caplan, who fully financed the film, alongside executive producers from various backgrounds in the industry.
The film’s creative team also features notable talent, including director of photography Sharone Meir, editor Catrin Hedström, production designer Katie Hickman, and Emmy-nominated costume designer Angelina Vitto, with casting by Emmy nominees Bret Howe and Mary Vernieu, and music by Ben Lovett.
