Mikayla Matthews from ‘Mormon Wives’ Shares Her Health Challenges During the Move to Hawaii
Mikayla Matthews Shares Health Journey and Relocation for Treatment
Mikayla Matthews, star of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, recently opened up about her ongoing health challenges and her recent move to Hawaii for treatment. In a heartfelt TikTok video shared on April 30, Matthews, 26, described her experience as both intense and traumatic.
“This itself has been a very intense, traumatic experience. I feel like there’s a reason I’m going through this,” she stated, expressing gratitude for her support system during this difficult time. “I could not imagine not being in a place financially that I’m in right now or having the support that I have and having to go through this alone,” she added tearfully.
Earlier this week, Matthews revealed that her relocation to Hawaii was motivated by the need for treatment for an unspecified skin condition and an unknown chronic illness. “I feel like I’m in a very transformative period of my health right now, making really big changes,” she expressed in a follow-up video shared on May 1. She plans to document her progress, vowing to provide daily skin updates through vlogs.
In her “Day 3 in Hawaii” update, Matthews celebrated a small victory, sharing her joy at being able to fully enjoy the ocean. “Got to go FULLY into the ocean yesterday so that was the biggest win,” she wrote, accompanied by relevant hashtags.
On May 2, she elaborated on her treatment regimen, discussing her approach to skincare. “I’ve been limiting moisture because I want my natural oils to come through… I don’t have any redness, just dryness,” she said, indicating progress in her condition while preparing for a swim.
Matthews, who shares four children with estranged husband Jace Terry, has been dealing with chronic illness for several years but has yet to receive a definitive diagnosis. She has previously expressed the emotional toll her health issues have taken on her parenting. “There was a time where the back of my legs and every crease was cut and bleeding, and I could barely even stand up and walk and take care of my kids. That was a really hard time,” she recalled.
Despite the ongoing struggle, Matthews remains hopeful, stating, “I’m a lot better than I was, but I still have my ups and downs." Her journey underscores the complexities of managing health issues while raising a family and striving for personal well-being.
