Family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez Shares Their Story Following D4vd’s Murder Charges
The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a 14-year-old girl found dismembered in a Tesla belonging to singer D4vd last year, has released a statement following news of the artist’s murder charges related to her death.
In a message shared with CBS News and ABC, Rivas’ family expressed their gratitude to the Los Angeles Police Department and the District Attorney for their efforts in the case, as well as to the residents of Lake Elsinore for their support.
“Celeste was a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance,” the family reflected. “Every Friday night was movie night, and we spent wonderful times together. We love her very much and she always told us that she loved us.”
They added, “We miss her deeply. All we want is justice for Celeste.”
D4vd, born David Anthony Burke, was arrested on April 16 on suspicion of murdering Rivas. Four days later, Los Angeles police announced he had been charged with first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and mutilation of a body. Authorities believe Burke killed Rivas to prevent her from revealing his criminal behavior.
L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated, “Burke allegedly murdered her, cut up her body and stuffed her body in two bags that were placed in the front trunk of his car. This horrific and gruesome murder committed by the charged sexual predator is shocking and appalling. To Celeste’s loved ones, we will get the justice you seek and deserve.”
At an arraignment on April 20, D4vd pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Blair Berk, asserted, “We believe the actual evidence will show David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez.”
Rivas’ decomposed remains were discovered on September 8, 2025, after a foul odor was reported from the impounded Tesla at a Hollywood tow lot. Within a short time, forensics identified her body, and D4vd was said to be “fully cooperating” with the investigation.
Hochman noted that D4vd allegedly killed Rivas on April 23, 2025, just two days before he released his debut album, Withered. "Celeste, a 14-year-old at that time, went to Mr. Burke’s house in the Hollywood Hills. She was never heard from again,” he added during a press conference.
