Beta Cinema Secures Distribution for Berlinale Award-Winning Film ‘Four Minus Three’ and Austrian Box Office Success
Beta Cinema Secures International Deals for Award-Winning Film "Four Minus Three"
Beta Cinema has announced distribution deals for the acclaimed Austrian film Four Minus Three, which recently premiered in the Panorama section of Berlinale 2026. With a strong theatrical performance in Austria, the film is also garnering nominations in prominent local film awards.
Directed by Adrian Goiginger, Four Minus Three is adapted from the bestselling autobiographical work of Barbara Pachl-Eberhart. The film poignantly depicts the journey of a professional clown, who, after tragically losing her husband and two children in a car accident, continues to bring joy to children in hospitals.
International sales for the film have been secured in several markets: Pyramide in France, Arti in Benelux, A‑Z Films in Canada, Swallow Wing in Taiwan, and Palace Films in Australia and New Zealand.
Since its release by Polyfilm/Alamode in March, the film has achieved remarkable success in its home territory, delivering the strongest opening weekend for an Austrian film in 2026. Now into its fifth week of release, it is still playing in 86 locations and has accumulated 70,096 admissions, resulting in a gross of €730,705 ($860,576).
Alamode is set to launch the film’s German release on April 16.
Lead actress Valerie Pachner has received widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Barbara, sharing the screen with Robert Stadlober, who plays her late husband and clown partner in flashbacks. The film had a notable premiere at Berlinale, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label Award and was runner-up for the Panorama Audience Award. In March, Pachner was honored with the Best Actress Award at the Diagonale film festival in Graz.
Additionally, Four Minus Three leads the nominations for the Austrian Film Awards, having secured spots in eight categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress.
A co-production between Austria and Germany, Four Minus Three was produced by 2010 Entertainment and Giganten Film in collaboration with ORF-FFA, BR, SWR, and Arte.
