Sam Hargrave Joins Sony’s Action Film ‘It Had To Be You’ with Production Team Platinum Dunes
Sony Pictures and Platinum Dunes Set to Release New Thriller ‘It Had To Be You’ Directed by Sam Hargrave
Sony Pictures and Platinum Dunes are joining forces for the upcoming thriller It Had To Be You, directed by acclaimed action filmmaker Sam Hargrave. The screenplay, written by Eliza Jane Brazier, is adapted from her novel of the same name, and Brazier will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
The film centers on two contract killers who, while each has a hit out on the other, find themselves grappling with an unexpected attraction amidst a deadly game of lust and murder set across Western Europe.
Hargrave will produce the film alongside Cameron Fuller from Platinum Dunes, who has been instrumental in bringing the project to life since its inception. Fuller successfully pitched the script to Sony without any attached talent last year and played a key role in securing Hargrave as the director. With Hargrave’s reputation, Sony is now poised to attract high-profile stars for the leading roles.
Hargrave’s portfolio continues to expand with a mix of high-profile projects. This summer, he will launch Matchbox: The Movie, produced through a collaboration with Apple and Skydance, featuring John Cena. In addition, he is currently preparing for the next installment of the Extraction franchise, with Chris Hemsworth set to reprise his leading role.
Having begun his career as a stuntman and coordinator, Hargrave has made a name for himself in the film industry with his distinctive approach to action that emphasizes character development. A five-time winner of the Taurus World Stunt Award and a recipient of a Screen Actors Guild Award, he previously worked as a stunt coordinator on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War.
Hargrave made his feature directorial debut with the AGBO and Russo Brothers-produced action thriller Extraction, followed by its successful sequel, Extraction 2, both of which received critical acclaim and achieved record-breaking viewership on Netflix. His recent projects include directing and executive producing the Apple TV+ original drama series The Last Frontier, featuring Jason Clarke, and wrapping up production on Matchbox: The Movie with John Cena and Jessica Biel.
Hargrave is represented by WME and Goodman, Genow.
