Sadie Calvano and Gabe Gibbs Team Up with Katey Sagal and Jane Lynch in New NBC Pilot with UTV as Studio Partner
Sadie Calvano and Gabe Gibbs Join NBC Comedy Pilot Cast
Sadie Calvano, known for her work on Mom, and Gabe Gibbs, recognized from Schooled, have been added to the main cast of an upcoming NBC comedy pilot that remains untitled. The project, created by Kari Lizer, features other notable talents including Katey Sagal and Jane Lynch. In a significant production shift, UTV has taken over from Paramount as the studio behind the project.
The comedy revolves around Ginger (played by Sagal) and Jill (played by Lynch), lifelong friends turned estranged co-authors of best-selling sex and relationship books. When the duo unexpectedly reunites at a mutual ex’s funeral, tensions surface, forcing them to confront their tumultuous past. As they navigate their history, they embark on a journey of reconciliation, ultimately realizing their complementary strengths.
The series draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of best friends and sex experts Pepper Schwartz and Janet Lever, who are serving as consulting producers for the project.
Calvano will portray Joni, Ginger’s daughter, a principled aspiring lawyer. Conversely, Gibbs will take on the role of Lennon, Ginger’s bright, sensitive son, often characterized as a Mama’s boy.
Lizer, along with Lynch, Sagal, Krista Vernoff, Andrew Stearn, Alexandre Schmitt, Shelley Zimmerman, and Blair Bigelow, is among the executive producers of the pilot, which will be directed and executive produced by Pamela Fryman. The project is a collaboration between Paramount Television Studios and Trip the Light Productions.
Calvano gained prominence through her role on CBS’s Mom, appearing alongside Anna Faris and Allison Janney. Her recent credits include a leading role in the CBS streaming series Why Women Kill and the Netflix film The Package. She is represented by Industry Entertainment.
Gibbs previously recurred on ABC’s Schooled and guest-starred on Grey’s Anatomy. He also co-starred in the national tour of The Book of Mormon and has recently focused on writing and creating music-driven projects. His first musical comedy special, Pick a Lane, premiered on YouTube in February. He is represented by Gersh, Walk the Walk, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum.
