Studiocanal Shares Sales Updates for Volker Schlöndorff’s ‘Visitation’ and Reveals First Image
Studiocanal Boards Sales for Volker Schlöndorff’s ‘Visitation’ Ahead of Cannes Premiere
Studiocanal has announced its involvement in the international sales for Volker Schlöndorff’s upcoming film, Visitation, which has been selected for the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival. A first image from the historical drama was revealed on Thursday.
This film marks Schlöndorff’s return to fiction filmmaking after nearly a decade, debuting in the Cannes Premiere section. It centers on a lakeshore house near Berlin that has witnessed a century of significant historical events, including the rise of Nazism, the devastation of war, Soviet occupation, the reunification of Germany, and the emergence of a new era.
The narrative explores the lives touched by this location, featuring a Jewish family, an ambitious architect and his wife, an idealistic writer, and her granddaughter. These twelve intertwined stories reflect their quests for peace and belonging amidst a backdrop of turmoil.
The ensemble cast includes Lars Eidinger, Martina Gedeck, Susanne Wolff, Michael Maertens, Ulrich Matthes, Detlev Buck, Angela Winkler, and Wigand Witting.
Schlöndorff, who claimed the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1979 for The Tin Drum, is no stranger to the festival, having attended numerous times over his prolific career. His most recent participation was during the 70th anniversary celebrations in 2017, while his last film in competition was the Special Screening of Ulzhan in 2007.
Expressing his excitement about returning to the festival, Schlöndorff stated, “To be back at ‘the mother of all festivals,’ 60 years after I started there with my Young Toerless, must be the greatest satisfaction for any filmmaker, a joy and an honour. Free from all competition, I’ll enjoy the company of new and old colleagues from all over the world, walking down memory lane for the 8th time on the Croisette, 47 years after the Golden Palm – what a privilege it is to be a filmmaker!”
Visitation is produced by renowned producer Regina Ziegler at Ziegler Film, based in Berlin, in collaboration with Studiocanal, which is overseeing international sales.
