The announcement was made during bows at the Hollywood Bowl, where Platt and Zegler surprised the audience by revealing the project. Pre-orders and pre-saves for the album have been made available immediately following the announcement, as part of the ongoing celebrations for the musical’s 25th anniversary.
The recording captures performances from a sold-out concert residency at London’s historic Palladium from March 24–29, 2026, showcasing the special anniversary staging of the two-character musical.
Directed and conducted by Brown, the Tony Award-winning composer behind Parade and The Bridges of Madison County, the production offers a symphonic approach to the show’s intimate storytelling.
Since its premiere in 2001, The Last Five Years has become a modern musical theater staple. The narrative follows two New Yorkers through a five-year relationship, employing an unconventional telling where Cathy’s story unfolds in reverse chronological order while Jamie’s progresses forward. The show has garnered a loyal following thanks to its poignant songwriting and unique structure.
The live album is set to capture the chemistry between Platt, a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner known for his role in Dear Evan Hansen, and Zegler, a Golden Globe-winning actress known for her performances in West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Their dynamic has been a significant draw of the anniversary production, which quickly sold out its London performances.
The 25th-anniversary celebration will continue with two additional performances at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on April 6 and 7, both of which are also sold out. These performances will mark the final showings of the concert staging.
This release adds to Atlantic Records’ long history of involvement in major musical theater recordings, joining titles such as Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Jagged Little Pill, all of which have won Grammy Awards for Best Musical Theater Album.
