Hazmat Teams Address Leaking Shipping Container in Wilmington
Hazardous Material Investigation Underway at Port of Los Angeles
WILMINGTON, CA – Emergency responders are investigating a potential hazardous materials situation at a shipping facility on 920 W. Harry Bridges Blvd. This follows reports of a 40-foot shipping container emitting a gas early Friday morning.
Just after 9:10 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call about the container, which was found to be "off-gassing." Hazardous materials teams promptly established a safety perimeter and began monitoring air quality while assessing the container’s contents.
Currently, no injuries or evacuations have been reported in the surrounding community. Specialized Hazmat units remain on-site, utilizing air monitoring equipment and checking the container’s placards to identify the substance being released.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the specific chemical involved in the incident or the cause of the leak. The duration the container had been at the site prior to the leak being noticed is also unclear at this time.
Moving forward, Hazmat teams will continue to monitor the air to prevent any toxic vapors from escaping the facility. Once the leaking chemical is identified, crews will decide whether the container can be safely sealed on-site or if the contents need to be offloaded into a secure vessel.
Traffic on Harry Bridges Boulevard may experience minor delays as emergency vehicles are stationed at the site’s entrance. Residents and workers in the immediate vicinity are advised to avoid the area, close their windows if they notice any unusual odors, and stay updated through official channels regarding air quality conditions.
