Donald Glover Shares Exciting Update on the Community Movie: We’re Actively Working on It
Fans of the beloved sitcom Community can take heart, as Donald Glover has assured that the long-awaited reunion of Troy and Abed, along with a movie, is indeed on the horizon.
The two-time Golden Globe winner recently provided an optimistic update on Community: The Movie, which follows the show’s successful six-season run on NBC and Yahoo Screen from 2009 to 2015. Glover hinted that “something is gonna happen soon.”
“We’re working on it right now,” Glover shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I know everybody’s been saying that for forever, but I swear to you, I’m not lying about this. I really think that something is gonna happen soon.”
Glover added that he and his former co-stars have been in active discussions about the project, revealing, “It’s pretty lovey-dovey, but when you’re on the other side of the world, you will wake up to 83 messages.”

The script for the long-anticipated movie has been penned by series creator Dan Harmon and former writer Andrew Guest. The project was announced in 2024 as part of a broader initiative enjoying $51.6 million in incentives from California’s film and TV tax credits program.

In a move reaffirming fan expectations, Peacock officially ordered the feature in 2022. The production will see the return of main cast members, including Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong. Yvette Nicole Brown has also confirmed her involvement, indicating in October 2024 that the script was “being reworked” to incorporate her character, Shirley.
Joel McHale previously addressed the delays surrounding the project, asserting to GQ that fans “can fully blame my schedule.” This comment came amid rumors that Glover’s busy commitments were holding up production.
