Adele Parks’ Novels Are Becoming TV Series
EXCLUSIVE: Bestselling British author Adele Parks is set to make her television debut with a series adaptation of her novels.
Parks has entered into a partnership with Studiocanal-backed Strong Film & Television to develop a domestic thriller featuring interconnected characters from her works, including Our Beautiful Mess, Playing Away, Lies Lies Lies, and Young Wives’ Tales. These titles are drawn from her extensive career spanning 25 years.
At the center of this adaptation is Our Beautiful Mess, released last year. The narrative follows a mother eagerly awaiting her children’s return from vacation, only to learn that one child is pregnant and involved with a problematic boyfriend, catalyzing a chain of secrets and threats.
James Strong, founder of Strong Film & Television and director of projects like Mr Bates vs the Post Office and Vigil, will head the new series alongside BAFTA-winning executive producer Loretta Preece. Details regarding the screenwriter and cast will be revealed in the future.
Parks is among the UK’s highest-selling authors, having written 25 novels since the early 2000s. Her works have previously been adapted into films, including The Image of You, set for release in 2024, and The Stranger in My Home, which premiered last year.
The deal was facilitated by producer Jim Parks, whose recent projects include The Image of You as well as Steven Soderbergh’s The Christophers.
Strong described Parks’ novels as “a director’s dream… blistering page-turners that beg to be brought to the screen.”
Parks expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “From the moment I met James and the team at Strong Film & Television, I knew I’d found the perfect partners. Their energy, creativity, and dynamism are astonishing. I’m confident we’ll deliver what my fans have been demanding – emotive, entertaining, must-see TV.”
Strong Film & Television, launched in 2023, is already developing an ITV drama series about a young Elizabeth I, produced by a trio of former Grey’s Anatomy showrunners. The company has also secured the rights to adapt Robin Stevens’ Murder Most Unladylike.
