Saturday Night Live UK Welcomes Creative Consultants, Including Barbie Actor, to Boost Its Star Appeal
Eagle-Eyed Fans Spot Notable Consultants on SNL UK
Viewers of Saturday Night Live UK last weekend may have noticed some prominent names in the credits. Notably, renowned TV writers Jamie Demetriou and James Graham are listed as UK consultants for the show.
Demetriou, known for his role in Barbie and as the creator of Stath Lets Flats, teams up with Graham, celebrated for his work on Sherwood, Dear England, and Quiz. Both writers are contributing to the series, while Keri Powers and Javier Winnik serve as U.S. consultants.
Demetriou brings strong connections to the SNL UK team, having previously collaborated with head writer Daran Jonno Johnson and comedic partner Al Roberts, who plays his friend in Stath Lets Flats. Roberts’ wife, Emma Sidi, is also part of the SNL UK cast and has collaborated extensively with Demetriou.
Graham’s involvement comes as a surprise to some, given his reputation is primarily in drama rather than comedy. However, he has established himself as one of Britain’s most prolific creatives, with around 30 plays and 10 television shows to his credit. His upcoming project, Dear England, is a BBC adaptation based on his acclaimed play about the England soccer team.
The inclusion of Demetriou and Graham adds significant creative weight to the SNL UK team, which is led by producer James Longman under the guidance of SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
The second episode aired recently, featuring a cold open that humorously targeted former Prince Andrew and was hosted by Jamie Dornan, who participated in sketches including a horror-comedy segment about Jools Holland. Despite facing skepticism prior to its launch on Sky One, SNL UK has received positive feedback from both critics and audiences. The next episode will see Riz Ahmed as host, followed by five more episodes planned. The show is produced by Michaels’ Broadway Video and Universal Television Alternative Studio.
