Join the Community: Thousands to Gather for the No Kings Protest in Downtown LA
Tens of Thousands to Protest Against Trump’s Immigration Policies in Southern California
On Saturday, March 28th, tens of thousands of protesters are expected to gather in Southern California, joining demonstrators across the United States in a series of marches and rallies against what they describe as autocratic immigration policies implemented under President Donald Trump.
The "No Kings" protest will commence at 2 p.m. at Gloria Molina Grand Park, situated across from Los Angeles City Hall on Spring Street. Organizers anticipate a turnout of approximately 50,000 participants.
In a press release, event organizers stated, “As unconstitutional deportations and inhumane treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers continue across the United States, and as illegal and unauthorized wars are perpetrated around the globe, Los Angeles unites in solidarity with a peaceful march and rally.”
Scheduled speakers include prominent figures such as Jodie Sweetin, Dr. Melina Abdullah, Phyllis Bennis, Frank Meeink, and Becky Pringle. Musical entertainment will feature Grammy Award winner Iman Jordan and the San Diego-based hip-hop group The Neighborhood Kids.
Visual highlights of the event will include a 20-foot helium balloon depicting Trump in a diaper, alongside a 15-foot balloon of him clad in a Russian military uniform. The march will proceed down Spring Street, organized locally by 50501 SoCal.
Emily Williams, a lead organizer for 50501 SoCal, expressed the importance of the event, saying, “A lot of people want to help, they just don’t know where to start. No Kings is that starting point. It’s about community, about showing up for each other, and about turning concern into real action you can be part of.”
The march aims to directly confront what organizers describe as escalating state violence, from deportations conducted with little to no due process to military aggression abroad. Additionally, they are advocating for the impeachment and removal of the Trump administration and the abolition of ICE.
The No Kings National Day of Nonviolent Action will feature simultaneous demonstrations across more than 3,000 communities nationwide and is supported by over 30 local organizations in Los Angeles.
