Concerns Grow for the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival Amid Unpaid Bills
Riverside County Cuts Ties with Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival
The future of the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival, a cherished tradition in Riverside County for over 40 years, is now uncertain following the county’s decision to sever its ties with the event. Reports indicate that the festival owes the county over $75,000 in unpaid bills.
Scheduled for its 42nd iteration, details about this year’s festival remain conspicuously absent from online platforms. The Riverside County Regional Park and Open Space District has formally issued a notice of termination to the festival organizers due to the outstanding debt.
Paul Thornton, the festival’s executive producer, acknowledged the financial difficulties faced by previous owners but expressed optimism for the new management’s efforts. "We are trying to sort out the debt and reach a new deal with the county to keep the tradition alive," Thornton stated in a phone interview with NBC Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The festival, held annually at Lake Skinner, has seen growth in recent years, attributed to its offerings of live music, gourmet food, wine tastings, and hot air balloon experiences. Thornton also noted that the event serves as an important platform for local vendors, helping them connect with the community.
As discussions unfold, the fate of this beloved festival remains in question, highlighting the challenges faced by longstanding community traditions amidst financial pressures.
