In a series of unfolding events, Catherine Harding, the wife of soccer star Jorginho, has recounted her perspective on a recent incident involving pop star Chappell Roan’s security guard. This follows Jorginho’s initial claims regarding a confrontation that left his 11-year-old stepdaughter, Ada, distressed.
On Sunday, March 22, Harding, known as Cat Cavelli and a former contestant on The Voice UK, posted a video on Instagram elaborating on the situation. Her comments come in response to numerous inquiries regarding Jorginho’s previous post, where he accused Roan’s bodyguard of speaking “in an extremely aggressive manner” to Ada during breakfast at a hotel in São Paulo, causing her to cry.
“I know Chappell has responded saying that it wasn’t her security and that she didn’t do it,” Harding stated. “One hundred percent, this security guard was not a security guard of the hotel.”
Continuing, Harding explained, “He looks after artists. I don’t know if it was her personal security guard, but he was with her. Did she send him to do it? I don’t know. Look, I would like to hope not. But at the same time, I think you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure that the people that work for you and act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”
Harding recounted that Ada had merely noticed a girl with red hair resembling Roan, whom they were set to see later at Lollapalooza Brazil. “She didn’t have her phone, she didn’t try to take a picture, she didn’t approach her,” Harding explained. “She just looked at her and smiled.”
However, Harding described a troubling encounter with the security guard, who approached their table with an aggressive demeanor. “For him to come over to a table with just a woman and her daughter eating breakfast to berate and scold us and say that he was going to complain … I was shocked,” she remarked, emphasizing the inappropriate nature of the interaction. “I did actually say to him at the time, ‘If that’s the case that [Roan] doesn’t even want people to look at her, she is very welcome to eat breakfast in her room. This here is a public area.’”
Harding indicated her daughter is accustomed to being around celebrities due to her father’s status, yet the security guard allegedly remained confrontational. She expressed disappointment at how the encounter affected their planned outing. “It was my daughter’s birthday present … which was a little bit ruined,” she added. “I hope that if it wasn’t [Roan], that she learns to not allow people that work for her to treat people like this.”
These revelations surfaced after Jorginho’s Instagram post detailing the incident on March 21, in which he condemned the treatment his family experienced and stated, “It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans … WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.”
Roan, in her response on Instagram, stated she was unaware of the situation, asserting, “I did not ask the security guard to go up to talk to this mother and child … I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. That is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and child … you did not deserve that.”
After the incident, Roan completed her performance at Lollapalooza. However, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere announced that she is banned from performing at the Todo Mundo no Rio concert series due to the events involving Jorginho’s stepdaughter, a decision that attracted the soccer player’s supportive comments.
Despite the controversy, Harding and Ada were able to meet another headliner at Lollapalooza, Lewis Capaldi. Following her husband’s post about Roan, Harding shared a photo of Ada with the Scottish singer, expressing gratitude for his kindness.
