The 28-year-old pop artist, who performed at Lollapalooza Brazil on March 21, took to Instagram on Sunday to share her perspective following a post by Jorginho. He described how his daughter was “extremely shaken” after a security guard allegedly confronted her and her mother during breakfast, accusing them of “harassment” for merely recognizing Roan and smiling.
In her Instagram Story, Roan detailed her side of the encounter, stating, “I’m just going to tell my half of the story of what happened today with a mother and child who were involved with a security guard—who is not my personal security.”
She continued, “I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel.”
Roan emphasized that she did not instruct the security guard to approach the family and expressed concern over the assumption that the family did not have good intentions, stating, “It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions.”
Concluding her message, she expressed regret for the distress caused, stating, “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. That is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and child.”
In his Instagram post, Jorginho explained that his wife, Catherine Harding, and their daughter were at the São Paulo hotel for Roan’s Lollapalooza performance when they spotted the singer at the restaurant. “My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her,” he wrote, emphasizing that they did not approach Roan or ask for anything.
Jorginho claims the situation escalated when a security guard confronted his family aggressively, accusing his daughter of “disrespect” and “harassment,” even threatening to file a hotel complaint, which left her in tears.
This incident comes amidst Roan’s recent challenges with unsolicited attention from fans and photographers. Earlier this month, she shared a chaotic encounter in Paris, expressing frustration over paparazzi behavior, saying, “These are all the people that are completely disregarding my boundaries.”
While many have praised Roan for addressing paparazzi harassment, some, including Boy George, have suggested she embrace her fame. He commented on social media that she should “own your fame” and advised her to “cheer up.”
Conversely, fellow artist Noah Kahan voiced support for Roan, arguing that she ought to be left alone. In a video, he shared his frustrations with paparazzi, explaining how they often invade the privacy of artists, stating, “They are clearly not your fans.”
