Ryan Gosling Shares Insights on Talks with Marvel Regarding a Role in Ghost Rider
As he prepares for his debut in the Star Wars franchise, Ryan Gosling is already looking ahead to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The three-time Oscar nominee recently shared that he has engaged in discussions with Marvel Studios about potentially portraying the character Ghost Rider.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gosling stated, “We’ll keep hope alive. Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.” His interest in the role began back in 2022 when he first expressed enthusiasm over the casting possibilities.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige has also shown interest in bringing Gosling into the MCU. While filming Barbie, Feige remarked that he would “love to find a place for him in the MCU.” He further praised Gosling’s abilities, saying, “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider… Gosling’s unbelievable.”
Gosling’s character, Johnny Blaze, is a hotheaded biker who makes a pact with the devil to save his father’s life. This role was previously portrayed by Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider (2007), which also featured Gosling’s partner, Eva Mendes, as Roxanne Simpson, Blaze’s childhood sweetheart.
Set to star in Star Wars: Starfighter, which is slated for release on May 28, 2027, Gosling is embracing one of his first significant roles in a major film franchise. He credited director Shawn Levy for encouraging him to take on the project. “It was Shawn’s enthusiasm and his vision and the script,” he reflected last month. “I just avoided these things because they never felt right. And I’m glad I did because I feel like it was worth waiting for. It is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
