DCM Acquires Ascot Elite Entertainment in Strategic Merger for a Stronger Future in Swiss Film Distribution
DCM Acquires Ascot Elite Entertainment, Strengthening Film Distribution Network
Berlin-based producer and distributor DCM has announced its acquisition of Ascot Elite Entertainment, Switzerland’s largest independent distributor. The acquisition, finalized on March 19, 2026, marks a significant development in the film industry’s landscape in the German-speaking region.
Founded in 1928, Ascot Elite is one of Switzerland’s oldest distribution and production companies, with a rich history that includes recent releases such as Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, and The Housemaid. The decision to transfer ownership came as Ascot Elite’s owners—Karin G. Dietrich, Ralph S. Dietrich, and Stephan Giger—sought to ensure a seamless transition for the family-run business.
Despite being competitors in the market, the relationship between Ascot Elite and DCM’s founding partners—Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel, Marc Schmidheiny, and Joel Brandeis—has remained amicable. This rapport facilitated open discussions leading to DCM’s acquisition.
The agreement grants DCM 100% ownership of Ascot Elite, which employs 23 staff members. The owners expressed confidence that this partnership will preserve the company’s established market leadership and extensive national and international networks, paving the way for continued success.
For DCM, the acquisition is a strategic move that enhances its position in film production and distribution within the German-speaking realm. Founded in 2008, DCM initially focused on production, later expanding into distribution with the acquisition of Delphi Filmverleih in 2011, and extending operations into Switzerland in 2013.
As part of the transition, the previous owners will remain engaged with the company as independent producers and members of the Board of Directors, providing continuity during this pivotal period.
"We are very pleased to open this new chapter with DCM and entrust our life’s work to a strong player," the owners of Ascot Elite stated, reflecting on the longstanding relationship built since their first meeting with DCM’s founders. "The new constellation guarantees the continuity we value and sets the course for the future."
Joel Brandeis, speaking on behalf of DCM, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the successful collaborations that have fostered mutual trust over more than a decade.
Moving forward, Stephanie Candinas will take on full responsibility for the executive management of the newly merged entity, with Giger serving as co-Managing Director during the transition. Both companies aim to integrate their teams over the coming year, operating under the DCM brand thereafter.
Candinas expressed enthusiasm about the merger, stating, “I am really delighted to see both teams come together and pool our expertise as a strong, single entity that will take our buying and film marketing operations to the next level going forward.”
