Skin-Care Tip from ‘Sistas’ Star Jordan Coleman You Won’t Want to Miss
Rising Star Jordan Coleman Shines in BET’s Sistas
Jordan Coleman is making a significant impact in the television and film industry with her portrayal of Cheyenne Barnes in BET’s popular series Sistas, now entering its tenth season. As the younger sister to Andi, played by KJ Smith, Coleman embodies a character filled with emotional complexity and a quest for connection, prompting both her fellow cast members and the audience to delve into profound themes.
Coleman’s training has roots in esteemed institutions, including the Ivana Chubbuck Studio and Upright Citizens Brigade, alongside Margie Harbour and Graham Shields Studios. Her diverse credits include roles in Rebel Moon–Part One: A Child of Fire, The Astrid Experience, Perimeter, and All American: Homecoming. Known for her authentic and empathetic approach, Coleman aims to explore a broad spectrum of characters, including those in action films, as she continues to develop her craft.
In her personal life, Coleman prioritizes wellness, engaging in activities such as strength training, hot yoga, and Muay Thai. This commitment reflects her belief in a holistic lifestyle focused on longevity, with her travels enriching the depth and nuance in her performances.
Reflecting on her role, Coleman shared, “Honestly, I was excited by the challenge. Joining a show in its tenth season means the tone is established, the audience knows these characters, and you have to come in and earn your place in that world. Cheyenne gave me that opportunity. She’s not one note; there’s a push and pull to her, and I love characters where you’re constantly discovering what’s underneath.”
Coleman describes Cheyenne as “emotionally complex and sometimes a bit chaotic,” emphasizing that at her core, the character is “searching for connection.” She approached Cheyenne’s characterization with a sense of honesty, noting, “It was important to me that none of her choices felt random or ‘just chaotic.’ Everything she does comes from a real need, even if it’s messy or misdirected.”
Her insights into Cheyenne’s emotional landscape reveal a character driven by a desire for deeper connections, which allows Coleman to navigate the character’s dualities of strength and instability. “I wanted the audience to feel like, even when she’s making questionable decisions, they can still see themselves in her a little bit. That balance is what made her feel human to me,” she explained.
The complexities of her character lead to rich dynamics with co-star KJ Smith. Coleman noted, “It’s been really rewarding because that kind of relationship feels so real. There’s love, but there’s also tension and history.” She highlighted the collaboration involved in their character development, stating, “We built our own backstory and dynamics to draw from, so even in the tougher moments, it still feels grounded.”
Coleman also embraces a philosophy of simplicity in her beauty regimen, advocating for an approach that starts from within. “I like to keep everything really simple, especially when I’m filming. For me, it starts from within. I eat really clean, a lot of fruits and vegetables, and I stay consistent because it shows up in my skin,” she remarked.
As her character Cheyenne evolves, Coleman believes she will resonate with viewers on a deeper level. “I think she really shifts the dynamic of the show in a way people aren’t expecting and becomes more of a turning point than they might initially realize,” she observed.
With her portrayal, Coleman aims to challenge perceptions and showcase the multifaceted nature of her character. She expressed excitement about the opportunity for audiences to connect with Cheyenne’s vulnerability, revealing, “I love playing characters who challenge perception, and she definitely does that.”
