Pritika Swarup on Her Passion for Highlighting Indian Craftsmanship at the Oscars
Pritika Swarup Makes Fashion Waves at the Oscars
International fashion model and philanthropist Pritika Swarup has emerged as a standout figure during this year’s Oscar celebrations. Attending the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party and The Party by Guy Oseary, Swarup showcased two striking looks that spoke to her personal narrative and commitment to cultural heritage.
Her first ensemble—a result of a collaborative effort with Rahul Mishra and Swadesh, alongside renowned designer Manish Malhotra—celebrates India’s artisanal traditions. The handcrafted gown, made from Maheshwari tissue silk intricately woven in gold over a span of 400 hours, highlights exceptional craftsmanship with detailed zardozi embroidery and gemstone embellishments. “Wearing it feels like a love letter to my heritage,” Swarup expressed, emphasizing her desire to elevate Indian craftsmanship on a global platform.
Later in the evening, Swarup transitioned to a bold, architectural gown by Stéphane Rolland, characterized by a plunging neckline and oversized chain-like details that offer a contemporary flair. She commented, “I loved the idea of wearing two very different looks—one that celebrates heritage and craftsmanship, and another that feels bold and modern."
Swarup’s evening was not only a highlight of fashion but also of cultural significance. “For me, it’s about honoring the artisans behind it and showing that Indian fashion can be reimagined in a way that feels modern,” she stated, emphasizing her pride in presenting Indian textiles and craftsmanship on such a prestigious platform.

Her makeup and glam team focused on understated elegance, with an emphasis on radiant skin. “The goal was glow over glam—clean, sculpted and quietly powerful,” Swarup explained, noting that the makeup complemented her outfits without overshadowing them.
Swarup’s preparations for the event begin well before the red carpet. “My approach to great glam really starts with healthy, nourished skin,” she stated, highlighting her routine and the importance of hydration leading up to a major event.
As the evening unfolded, Swarup reflected on what these moments represent. “The night felt like more than a red-carpet moment—it’s a cultural moment. One where Indian craftsmanship is being seen, celebrated and positioned exactly where it belongs: at the center of global fashion.”
Swarup’s dual presentations at the Oscars exemplify the intersection of heritage and modern fashion, setting the stage for a broader recognition of Indian craftsmanship in the global fashion dialogue.
