Ballet’s Beautiful Love Story: Newlyweds Share Their Journey of Romance and Dancing Together
Dance Stars Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia Look Back on Their Journey Together
Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia, celebrated principal dancers with the New York City Ballet, have unveiled their heartwarming love story in a recent interview and photoshoot, reflecting on nearly eight years of shared experiences.
The couple first met at Lincoln Center, where Mejia was an apprentice and Peck was an established performer. "He’s gonna really be something," she recalled thinking when she spotted him in class. Their relationship blossomed over time, culminating in a close friendship before deepening into romance.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the pair’s connection solidified when Peck invited Mejia to her family home in Bakersfield, California. "I was like, whatever she’s got going on is gonna be exciting,” Mejia said about the experience. This period of seclusion led them to act in a project where they portrayed a bride and groom, marking a significant turning point. "I was in a gown, he put a ring on my finger, and we did this dance," Peck reminisced.
Though both worried about how a romantic relationship might affect their professional lives, they confessed to missing each other when separated. “I was scared because he was like my favorite person to dance with, and I didn’t want to mess it up,” Peck admitted.
The couple’s bond ultimately proved resilient, leading to their engagement in September 2024 and their wedding in June 2025 at David H. Koch Theater, a venue they fondly anchor to their beginnings. “The space that brought us together,” Peck noted during their first look on their wedding day.
As they continue to navigate married life, the couple looks forward to more shared performances. They are set to debut in Turn It Out With Tiler Peck & Friends on October 16 at New York City Center. Their fall schedule also includes the release of Peck’s third book, XO Ballerina Big Sis, targeted for October 21, and a PBS documentary titled Tiler Peck: Suspending Time, premiering November 7.
“It’s amazing to share this,” Peck expressed, acknowledging her plans to retire by 2030. "The fact that I found somebody to experience these ballets with for the last time is really special."
For now, the couple enjoys the intricacies of balancing love and their artistic pursuits, with Peck continuing to offer her husband advice as they grow together both personally and professionally. "A lot of couples don’t get to do what they love with the person they love," she said.
