Country music legend Garth Brooks has consistently embraced his role as a devoted father, alongside his successful career. He shares three daughters—Taylor, August, and Allie—with ex-wife Sandy Mahl. The couple, who got married in 1986, separated in 1999 and finalized their divorce in 2001.
In the wake of the separation, Brooks took a step back from music to prioritize parenting. He momentarily retired and moved his daughters into a small bunkhouse on his ranch in Oklahoma, cherishing the chance to deepen his connection with them.
Reflecting on those years, he recalled, “I knew their sweet faces and their dispositions. But I didn’t know who they were,” he told PEOPLE in 2015. The singer faced public scrutiny during this period, with many questioning his decision to step away from music. “People said, ‘How could you walk away from music?’ ” he said. “But being a dad — there’s nothing that can touch that.”
Over time, Brooks learned valuable lessons about parenthood, acknowledging that children forge their paths. “[Kids] are the greatest joy and the greatest heartache you’ll ever have,” he remarked. “The truth is, they’re going to be who they’re going to be.”
His daughters share a close relationship with his current wife, fellow country artist Trisha Yearwood, whom he married in 2005. Yearwood considers herself a “bonus mom” and noted, “They let me learn my way and allowed me to be that third parent in their lives. They were a gift that I didn’t know I needed.”

Garth’s eldest daughter, Taylor, was born on July 8, 1992. He expressed his deep joy following her birth, stating, “After this, nothing else matters,” as noted in the Orlando Sentinel. When Taylor was on the way, her mother suffered complications but ultimately delivered a healthy baby.
Though she keeps a low profile, Taylor was featured in Garth’s 2019 A&E documentary, Garth Brooks: The Road I’m On. At that point, she was studying for a master’s degree in theological studies at Vanderbilt University. “Taylor is quiet courage,” her father said. “Taylor will trade her life for someone she doesn’t know.”
In the documentary, she shared insights into Garth’s parenting style, saying, “He was a big dinner person. He liked to make dinner and could not cook to save his life.” Taylor is now a mother herself; in a recent Mother’s Day post, her sister Allie celebrated her role, calling her an “amazing mom.”

Garth and Mahl welcomed their second daughter, August, on May 3, 1994. Following her 2012 high school graduation, she worked at a law firm and attended classes at the University of Oklahoma.
In his documentary, Garth described August as possessing “intelligence, stubbornness, [and] will.” August has become a mother herself; she gave birth to her first daughter, Karalynn, in 2013, followed by a second daughter, Gwendolyn, in 2016. Garth has praised her parenting skills, noting, “I think she was made to be a mom.”
He added, “It always turns out that that baby is the glue that holds the whole family together… she’s a doll.”

Garth’s youngest daughter, Allie, born on July 28, 1996, has made a name for herself as a country singer, performing under the name Allie Colleen. She graduated from Belmont University in 2018 with a degree in songwriting and music business.
Since signing with Evangeline Records, Allie has toured extensively across the United States. Her interests include horseback riding, weightlifting, and spending quality time with her dog, Merry Moo.
In 2020, Garth revealed that Allie had tested positive for COVID-19 but had since recovered. He expressed his concerns during a press conference, saying, “As a parent, nobody knows what COVID is going to do in the future, so you just watch over them. You pray a lot and hopefully she will come out of this thing with just that.”
Allie shared a heartfelt post on Instagram for Father’s Day, celebrating her dad alongside throwback photos, stating, “Here’s to all the Dads that have always been where they’re needed and to the best one a daughter could ask for.”
