Gina Rodriguez Joins ‘Matlock’ Season 2 Finale, Reuniting with Jennie Snyder Urman from ‘Jane The Virgin’
Gina Rodriguez to Guest Star in the Season 2 Finale of ‘Matlock’
Gina Rodriguez, known for her role in Jane the Virgin, will guest star in the Season 2 finale of the popular CBS series Matlock. Rodriguez’s casting had been speculated for some time, particularly as showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman, who also produced Jane the Virgin, has a history with the actress.
Rodriguez is the third alum from Jane the Virgin to join Matlock, following Yael Grobglas and Justina Machado. Urman expressed her excitement, stating, “My heart is exploding with happiness that Gina will be joining the show for the season two finale. She is pure magic and our collaboration on Jane was a highlight of my life. Having her on Matlock is a dream come true.”
Matlock, led by Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, follows the seasoned attorney who re-enters the legal field at a prestigious firm. Matty employs her unique approach to win cases, partnered with senior attorney Olympia, played by Skye P. Marshall. Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the firm’s head (Beau Bridges), is drawn to Matty’s clever tactics.
Additionally, Edwin Hodge, husband of series star Marshall, will appear in this season as a potential love interest for Olympia. He portrays Langston, a charming individual who is known for making a lasting impression, supported by his academic prowess with a double PhD in neuroscience and philosophy.
Urman serves as the executive producer of the series, alongside collaborators Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, Kat Coiro, and Bates.
Rodriguez, celebrated for her Golden Globe-winning performance in Jane the Virgin, recently appeared in Season 3 of ABC’s Will Trent as Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba. She also starred in ABC’s Not Dead Yet and co-hosted Lucky 13. Upcoming projects include Robert Rodriguez’s reboot of Spy Kids and the Netflix romantic comedy Players.
