Paramount Pictures Enlists James Wan for Adaptation of South Korean Hit
Paramount Pictures has appointed James Wan to direct a new adaptation of the acclaimed South Korean film The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. The project features Don Lee, known as Ma Dong-seok, who starred in the original film.
Brian Helgeland, who penned the original draft, will serve as an executive producer, while Shay Hatten is set to write the screenplay. Wan, alongside Michael Clear, will produce under their Atomic Monster banner. Lee will also take on a producing role through his company, Big Punch Global, with additional support from Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller of Balboa Productions, Chris Lee of B&C Group, and Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment.
The original film gained international recognition after screening at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. It tells the gripping story of a police officer and a crime boss who join forces to pursue a serial killer.
James Wan recently directed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the 2018 film that holds the record as DC Studios’ highest-grossing movie worldwide. He is represented by CAA, Stacey Testro International, and David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fox. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report on this development.
