Jeff Daniels Joins Cast of ‘The Morning Show’ for Upcoming Fifth Season
Jeff Daniels has officially signed on to the fifth season of Apple TV’s acclaimed drama series, The Morning Show, which features Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston as executive producers and leading stars.
In a pivotal recurring role, Daniels will portray Lukas, a self-made billionaire and the founder of a prominent investment firm. His addition to the cast marks a significant development for the series, which continues to explore themes of media and morality.
Alongside Witherspoon and Aniston, Daniels joins a returning ensemble that includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm.
Produced by indie studio Media Res, The Morning Show is overseen by showrunner Charlotte Stoudt and directed by Mimi Leder. Key executive producers also include Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer from Media Res, as well as Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, and Kristin Hahn through Echo Films.
The upcoming fourth season, set to premiere in the spring of 2024, takes place two years after the previous season’s events. Following the completion of the UBA-NBN merger, the newsroom confronts new responsibilities, hidden motives, and the complex dynamics of truth amid a divided America.
The third season of The Morning Show garnered significant recognition, receiving 16 Emmy nominations. Billy Crudup won his second Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Cory Ellison.
Daniels, a two-time Emmy winner for The Newsroom and Godless, has been appearing in another Apple TV series, the comedy Shrinking, where he plays the father of Jason Segel’s character. Recently, he starred in the series American Rust, which aired for two seasons across Showtime and Prime Video. He also participated in Netflix’s limited series A Man In Full and portrayed former FBI director James Comey in The Comey Rule, earning a Golden Globe nomination. Daniels is set to take on the role of President Ronald Reagan in the upcoming Cold War film Reykjavik.
