Green Lens Award Debuts at SXSW to Celebrate Film and TV Projects Focused on Sustainability and Climate Change
EXCLUSIVE: The Sustainable Entertainment Alliance (SEA) and the SXSW Film & TV Festival are set to introduce the Green Lens Award.
The SXSW Green Lens Award will honor the film or television project that most effectively captures the human experience amid climate change or showcases pathways to a more sustainable future. The jury will evaluate projects that highlight these themes, whether through a central narrative, storyline, or the journey of an individual character. A dedicated committee has been formed by SEA and SXSW, consisting of industry executives and experts in climate storytelling, to judge the submissions.
The award will be launched during an event hosted by SEA and the Hollywood Climate Summit at SXSW, with the winner announced during the Festival’s Film & TV Awards Ceremony on March 18.

“SXSW has a long history of programming that explores sustainability, conservation, and climate innovation, as well as the ideas shaping more resilient cities and communities,” said Claudette Godfrey, VP of Film & TV at SXSW. “With the Green Lens Award, we’re excited to extend that spirit into our Film & TV Awards by recognizing storytellers whose work brings these themes to life and shows how powerful narrative can be in shaping both culture and the future of our planet.”
The SEA, formerly known as the Sustainable Production Alliance, is a consortium that includes notable entities such as A24, Amazon MGM, Fox, Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Sony, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Netflix. The organization focuses on sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the entertainment industry’s carbon footprint.
“The best stories have always reflected the world as we actually experience it, and right now that means grappling with a changing climate,” said Sam Read, Executive Director of the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance. “Audiences are hungry for stories that reflect that reality, and storytellers have an incredible opportunity to meet them there. We’re thrilled to partner with SXSW to recognize the filmmakers and creators who are turning one of the defining issues of our time into work that truly resonates.”
