Jamie-Lynn Sigler Celebrates Eric Dane’s Role in ‘Brilliant Minds’ During His ALS Journey: “That’s A Gift”
Jamie-Lynn Sigler Highlights the Impact of Illness on Acting Careers
As she prepares for a guest role on "Grey’s Anatomy," actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler has expressed her admiration for fellow performers balancing their careers with illness. Sigler, who has a personal connection to health challenges, is set to appear in the upcoming season of the long-running medical drama.
Sigler recently praised Eric Dane for his compelling performance in a November episode of NBC’s "Brilliant Minds," where he portrays a firefighter grappling with his recent diagnosis of ALS. Dane publicly revealed his condition in April, making his role particularly poignant.
“I think to be able to be in this moment of his life and still get to act, still get to tell his story, and still do what he loves, despite what’s happening to his body — I was thrilled for him and others that are like him to have that representation,” Sigler shared with The Independent. “That’s a gift.”
She elaborated, acknowledging the importance of sharing stories like Dane’s, emphasizing the broader impact such representations have on audiences facing similar struggles: “That’s a gift to give to him for so many reasons and to other people as well.”
"Brilliant Minds" co-creator, Grassi, reflected on the creative process behind the episode, discussing the complexities families face when navigating difficult diagnoses. “There’s no rule book. There’s no guide. There’s no right way. There’s no wrong way, and it’s really hard,” Grassi said, highlighting the intent to portray these challenges authentically, particularly in a Thanksgiving episode.
Meanwhile, in her own role on "Grey’s Anatomy," Sigler will appear as Dr. Laura Kaplan, a urologist living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in the upcoming episode titled "Heavy on Me." This character was specifically written for Sigler, who has managed her MS diagnosis for more than twenty years.
