Man Tragically Runs Over and Kills His Father in Long Beach
Long Beach Man Arrested After Allegedly Killing Father
A 50-year-old man from Long Beach has been arrested for allegedly running over and killing his 89-year-old father.
On Saturday afternoon, police responded to reports of a family disturbance in the 600 block of West Wardlow Road near Magnolia Avenue at approximately 1:50 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the elderly man trapped beneath a vehicle in front of a residence.
"Officers attempted to rescue the elderly man with the assistance of nearby residents, who provided a floor jack," the Long Beach Police Department stated. "Using this equipment, officers managed to lift the vehicle enough to extricate the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived." Despite their efforts, emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver deliberately struck his father and remained at the location until police arrived. The deceased has been identified as William Porter, while the suspect, Robert Porter, has been booked on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $2 million.
