Minnie Driver Shares Her Journey as Sarah in Fox’s ‘The Faithful: Women Of The Bible’
Minnie Driver is stepping into a pivotal role as Sarah in Fox’s upcoming series The Faithful: Women of the Bible, a dramatization of the Book of Genesis that highlights the stories of notable biblical women. Driver describes her portrayal as a significant leap of faith, reflecting her long-standing attraction to characters who navigate complex personal journeys.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been drawn to playing women who take big leaps of faith — whether romantically, spiritually, or morally," said Driver at the show’s world premiere held at London’s National Portrait Gallery. "Stepping into the role of Sarah required embracing all three and more, as Sarah is an extraordinary human, having a deeply spiritual experience."
In this series, Driver’s character, Sarah, is married to Abraham, portrayed by Jeffery Donovan. Their struggle with infertility leads Sarah to devise her own plan to bear a child through her maidservant, Hagar, played by Natacha Karam. “Her path to faith was a really interesting and difficult journey, and as with all great storytelling, Sarah’s life and predicament is both relatable and fascinating," Driver noted. "It is a great pleasure, and not before time, to bring Sarah’s story and the stories of all these remarkable biblical matriarchs into the light.”
The Faithful will premiere in the U.S. on March 22, airing on Fox in three 90-minute installments weekly through Easter Sunday. The series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, with international distribution overseen by Fox Entertainment Global, offering the series either as a 90-minute version or a six-part 60-minute series. This launch marks a highlight for Fox at the current London TV Screenings.
The series is developed by Carol Mendelsohn, known for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and features René Echevarria as showrunner. At the premiere, Echevarria emphasized the importance of presenting these timeless stories. “These are sacred stories that have been shared, studied, and cherished for thousands of years," he remarked. “The question for us was not simply how to retell them, but how to illuminate them in a way that felt both reverent and meaningful for today’s audience.”
Echevarria further explained that focusing on the perspectives of the women involved would create a connection to contemporary viewers. “While Scripture gives us glimpses of their lives, there is so much space between the lines.”
