Snowfall Expected in Southern California Mountain Communities

Southern California’s mountain areas are bracing for several more inches of snow as a new storm system approaches the region. Rain and snow are anticipated on Thursday, capping off what has already been a wet week across the area.

The storm system, which moved down the coast overnight, is expected to reach Ventura County this morning. Los Angeles County will see rain, strong winds, and snowfall later in the day.

The bulk of the precipitation is forecast to arrive between mid-morning and early afternoon. Coastal and valley communities can expect between a quarter to half an inch of rain, while mountain areas could see several inches of snow, particularly at elevations above 5,000 feet. Snow levels are projected to drop to around 4,000 feet.

A winter storm warning is in effect along the 5 Freeway corridor north of Los Angeles until 7 a.m. on Friday. Wind gusts may reach between 30 to over 50 mph, prompting wind advisories for much of the region.

Additionally, large waves are anticipated, with high surf advisories and beach hazard statements currently in effect.
