Beta Film Picks Up Quebec Noir Series ‘Northern Traces’ with Danny Gilmore
Quebec Noir Series "Northern Traces" Set for London Debut
Quebec’s acclaimed noir series, Northern Traces, is set to make its international debut in London. The show, which has garnered significant viewership on the French-language streaming service illico+ in Canada, is now under the international rights of Beta Film. It will be featured in Beta Film’s lineup at the upcoming London TV Screenings.
Produced by Quebec-based Pixcom, Northern Traces follows the success of previous works like the comedy-drama Audrey’s Back, starring Florence Longpré, and the crime drama The Wall, both of which have also achieved international distribution through Beta.
Set in a remote, snow-covered town, the series revolves around Sergeant Guillaume Pelletier, portrayed by Danny Gilmore, as he investigates the murder of a friend’s ex-wife. Teaming up with local officer Évelyne, the pair must navigate a web of secrets and face the challenge of solving the case under pressure.
“Northern Traces is another great example of engaging Canadian storytelling, paving the way for a new type of noir: Quebec Noir,” said Nicola Merola, President of Pixcom. He expressed confidence in the partnership with Beta Film, believing it will enhance the series’ international reach based on its success in Canada.
Oliver Bachert, Chief Distribution Officer at Beta Film, emphasized the show’s binge-worthy appeal, calling it “gripping” and “addictive,” and highlighted its stunning Canadian winter backdrop. He is optimistic about the series achieving similar success on the global stage.
The cast of Northern Traces includes Robert Naylor, Catherine Bérubé, and Léa Roy, with Anne De Léan directing from a script by Julie Hivon. The drama was produced in collaboration with Quebecor Content and Club Illico, and it was originally titled Alertes: Pelletier.
As the London TV Screenings approach, Beta Film will host a special screening for buyers, attracting distributors and acquisition executives from across the industry. This event has solidified its place in the international television calendar, featuring over forty participating sales houses.
