High School Soccer Playoffs: Saturday’s Results
In an exciting round of high school soccer playoffs held Saturday, several teams advanced in the Southern Section tournaments.
Girls Open Division – Second Round Pool Play
Santa Margarita secured a spot in the next round, defeating #8 Corona Santiago 2-1 on aggregate. #4 Oaks Christian also advanced, beating #5 Palos Verdes 4-2. Mater Dei triumphed over #6 Huntington Beach with a decisive 5-0 victory, while #2 Redondo Union advanced after playing to a scoreless draw against #7 JSerra.
Division 1
Westlake edged out El Dorado with a score of 2-1. In other notable games, Rosary Academy won 2-0 against Great Oak, and Orange Lutheran dominated San Juan Hills 4-0. Newport Harbor narrowly defeated Moorpark 1-0, while Eastvale Roosevelt won 2-1 against Edison. Etiwanda defeated Anaheim Canyon 2-1, and Harvard-Westlake secured a 1-0 win over Garden Grove Pacifica. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame also advanced with a 1-0 victory against Capistrano Valley.
Division 2
Ayala earned a commanding 4-0 victory over Beckman. Saugus defeated Temecula Valley 2-0, while Portola won 1-0 against Crean Lutheran. San Marino triumphed over Rancho Cucamonga with a score of 3-0, and Millikan achieved a narrow 1-0 win against St. Genevieve. In a closely contested match, Warren and La Habra ended in a 1-1 draw, but Warren won 4-3 in a shootout. Alta Loma also advanced after a scoreless draw against Riverside King, winning 3-2 on penalties. Bonita triumphed over La Serna 2-1 in overtime.
Division 3
Valencia won 1-0 against La Mirada, while Crescenta Valley defeated Oxnard 2-1. La Salle won a tight match 1-0 against Fullerton, and Paloma Valley secured a 1-0 victory over South Hills. Quartz Hill edged out Sage Hill 3-2, and La Canada advanced after a penalty shootout victory against Costa Mesa, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Flintridge Prep secured a 4-1 win against Santa Monica, and Simi Valley defeated Citrus Valley 2-0.
Division 4
In Division 4, Patriot earned a 1-0 victory over Monrovia, while San Jacinto won 2-0 against Katella. Granite Hills triumphed over Temescal Canyon 2-1. Arcadia and Shadow Hills played to a 2-2 draw, with Arcadia winning 5-4 in the shootout. Laguna Hills managed a 1-0 win against Tahquitz, and Chino emerged victorious over Yucaipa with a score of 1-0. Arlington also won 1-0 against Apple Valley.
Division 5
Anaheim secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Ramona, while Artesia won 1-0 against Channel Islands. Grand Terrace defeated Rancho Verde 2-1, and Coachella Valley edged Carpinteria 1-0. La Palma Kennedy triumphed over Santa Paula 1-0, Sultana won 2-1 against Lakewood, and Del Sol and Cerritos Valley Christian ended in a 1-1 tie, with Del Sol winning 5-3 in the shootout. Alemany came out on top with a 3-2 victory over El Rancho.
Division 6
Adelanto won a close match against Beverly Hills, finishing 2-1. Ocean View secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Desert Hot Springs, while St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy defeated Norte Vista 1-0. Palmdale Aerospace Academy triumphed over Mark Keppel 3-1, and Arroyo Valley won handily against Hemet with a score of 4-0. Segerstrom defeated Riverside Prep 3-0, Mayfair won 2-1 against Thacher, and Grace emerged victorious 1-0 against St. Monica.
Division 7
Nuview Bridge advanced with a 2-0 win against Desert Mirage. Savanna is set to play de Toledo at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Whitsett Soccer Complex. Santa Monica Pacifica Christian won against Animo Leadership 2-1, while Ganesha triumphed with a close 4-3 victory over South El Monte. Cate secured a decisive 3-0 win against Desert Christian Academy, and Santa Rosa Academy won 1-0 against Saddleback. San Gabriel defeated Pasadena Marshall 2-1, and Azusa dominated with a 5-0 victory over Oakwood.
Division 8
CAMS will compete against Shalhevet on Monday at Mar Vista Recreation Center. Mountain View secured a 3-1 victory against Hawthorne MSA, while Milken triumphed over Vistamar with a solid 5-0 win. Buckley achieved a narrow 1-0 victory against Indian Springs, and Environmental Charter won 2-0 against Rosemead. Big Bear dominated Bishop Conaty Loreto, winning 5-0, and Miller secured a 3-1 victory over Downey Calvary Chapel. Webb advanced with a 3-0 win against Vasquez.
Looking ahead, the quarterfinals are scheduled for February 18, followed by the semifinals on February 21, and the finals, which will take place on February 27 or 28.
