Amazon MGM Studios Acquires Original Concept ‘Country Roads’ by Allison Schroeder
Amazon MGM Studios has finalized a substantial seven-figure deal for Country Roads, an original concept created by Oscar-nominated writer Allison Schroeder. The film will be produced by Seven Bucks Productions, which is co-owned by notable figures in the industry.
Described as a romantic dramedy set against the backdrop of country music, Country Roads promises to explore the intricate blend of love and ambition in this vibrant genre.
Allison Schroeder, renowned for her work on the critically acclaimed film Hidden Figures, received nominations for an Oscar, a Writers Guild Award, and a BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay. Hidden Figures achieved significant box office success, grossing over $237 million globally in 2016. Her impressive portfolio also includes the $1.45 billion-grossing Frozen 2, the nearly $1 billion A Minecraft Movie, as well as other notable projects such as Disney’s live-action Christopher Robin and the Gal Gadot-led Netflix feature Heart of Stone. Schroeder is represented by Jake Weiner at Good Fear Content, WME, and Ginsberg Daniels Kallis.
The production of Country Roads will be overseen by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia, all of whom are part of Seven Bucks Productions. Kimberly Bialek will also play a key role in overseeing the project.
In addition to Country Roads, Seven Bucks Productions is currently working on several high-profile projects, including Disney’s live-action adaptation of Moana and the next installment in the Jumanji franchise, both set to premiere this year. The company has a robust slate of past films, including the A24 feature The Smashing Machine, the successful Jumanji series, and Red Notice, which holds the record as Netflix’s most-watched original live-action movie. Seven Bucks has also produced successful television series such as HBO’s Ballers, NBC’s Young Rock, and Paramount Network’s Rock the Troops, along with documentary features like Stuntman and docuseries including Disney+’s Behind the Attraction and Finding Justice.
