Amy Sherman-Palladino to Direct Adaptation of Jennifer Weiner’s Popular Novel ‘The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits’ for Universal
Universal Pictures Secures Rights to Jennifer Weiner’s Bestseller
Universal Pictures has successfully acquired the film rights to Jennifer Weiner’s acclaimed New York Times bestseller, The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits, following a competitive auction. Amy Sherman-Palladino, known for her work on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has been tapped to write and direct the adaptation.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, the novel explores the complex relationship between sisters Cassie and Zoe Griffin, who rise to pop stardom in the early 2000s only to face challenges that lead to their estrangement. Themes of industry pressure, unvoiced grievances, and betrayal are central to their story.
Originally published on April 8, 2025, The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits quickly became a New York Times Best Seller and was also featured as a Book of the Month selection. A paperback edition is set to be published by William Morrow in June.
Stacey Sher, a two-time Academy Award nominee recognized for her work on Django Unchained and Erin Brockovich, will produce the feature film, with Weiner serving as executive producer. The project is being supervised by Lexi Barta, Senior Vice President of Production, and Jacqueline Garell, Director of Production Development for Universal.
Sherman-Palladino, who most recently directed the Prime Video dramedy Étoile, is currently working on a Netflix adaptation of the beloved children’s book Eloise. She has also penned a new version of Once Upon a Mattress, featuring Sutton Foster on Broadway and in Los Angeles. Renowned for creating and producing the Emmy-winning series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which received 20 Emmys over its five-season run, Sherman-Palladino is represented by CAA.
Weiner’s literary works have enjoyed significant success, spending over five years on the New York Times bestseller list, often reaching the #1 position. With over 11 million copies of her books sold in 36 countries, her previous novel In Her Shoes was adapted into a film in 2005, starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine. Weiner is also known for other popular titles including Good in Bed, Little Earthquakes, and Goodnight Nobody, and is repped by Park, Fine & Brower Literary Management, Verve, Good Fear, and Miloknay Weiner.
