Cliff Booth Surprises Fans with a Special Super Bowl Appearance and First Teaser Trailer from Netflix
On February 8, 2026, Netflix unveiled the first teaser trailer for its forthcoming series The Adventures of Cliff Booth during the Super Bowl. This date stands out not only for its contemporary significance but also because it marks 57 years since the fictional meeting between Cliff Booth and Rick Dalton at Musso’s Bar, as immortalized in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Fans of the film, acclaimed for its meticulous attention to detail, are likely to appreciate this moment of synchronicity.
The trailer begins just after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. In a revealing moment, Brad Pitt’s character, Booth, sporting ice on his knee and shoulder, confides in Elizabeth Debicki’s character about his role in helping Rick Dalton, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, deal with "hippie intruders" during a pivotal scene in Tarantino’s film. Dalton, however, remains reticent, declining to share specifics.
Accompanied by the theme from Peter Gunn, the footage transitions to a montage showcasing a series of dynamic scenes: Booth and Debicki’s character walking closely, Carla Gugino at a Malibu beach house, ominous figures appearing to be Asian gangsters wielding a sledgehammer, and Booth in various high-energy situations, including a demolition derby and within a theater’s projection room. The scenes are a blend of nostalgia and intrigue, encapsulating the spirit of the era.
Interestingly, the trailer notably omits any cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, nudity, or profanities, opting instead for playful censorship—cigarette scenes are scratched out onscreen. Despite the absence of explicit branding, the presence of Pitt reprising an Oscar-winning role ensures significant notoriety.
The narrative for The Adventures of Cliff Booth draws from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: A Novel, penned by Tarantino, which enriches the Cliff Booth saga with a deeper backstory, including a harrowing encounter with mob henchmen trying to intimidate him away from a mobster’s mistress.
While specifics about the characters and plot remain largely under wraps, Pitt reprises his role as Booth, who is depicted transitioning from Rick Dalton’s stuntman to a Hollywood fixer. The ensemble cast also features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Scott Caan, and JB Tadena.
Acclaimed director David Fincher helms the project, working from a script authored by Tarantino. The decision for Fincher to take the lead stems from Tarantino’s desire to explore new creative avenues. “I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked,” he noted during a podcast discussion. “It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”
The teaser concludes with a promise of “Coming Soon,” leaving audiences eager for more details in the future.
