Chappell Roan Discusses Her Bold Dress Choice at the 2026 Grammys
Chappell Roan Responds to Fashion Criticism After 2026 Grammys Appearance
Chappell Roan is embracing the buzz surrounding her eye-catching red carpet look at the 2026 Grammy Awards. The singer donned a striking burgundy Mugler dress, featuring a sheer design and bedazzled faux piercings, sparking a mix of admiration and astonishment among viewers.
Roan shared her ensemble on Instagram, playfully defending her choice as she captioned a series of photos: “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit. The look’s actually so awesome and weird.” Her sentiment was echoed by many fans in the comments, with supporters labeling her look “the coolest” and “simply perfect.”
The 27-year-old artist was nominated for two Grammy Awards—Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance—for her hit single “The Subway,” although she did not take home an award. Record of the Year was awarded to Kendrick Lamar for “Luther,” while Lola Young received the title for Best Pop Solo Performance with “Messy.”
Roan’s bold fashion choice for the night also allowed her to showcase a range of temporary body art, including a whimsical pony drawing on her chest and a large lace-inspired tattoo design on her back. In addition to her dress, she accessorized with a striking gold choker and matching earrings by Buccellati.
Reflecting on her outfit, Roan mentioned artist Jenny Collins, known as Puppy Puppy Playtime, who created the tattoos. For some red carpet appearances, she opted for a coordinating sheer burgundy cape, which guised her body art.
Despite the daring nature of her attire, Roan remains steadfast in her unique style, which has garnered attention not only at the Grammys but also at previous events where she sported standout looks, including a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier gown. As the night concluded, Roan switched to a more traditional outfit while presenting the Best New Artist award to Olivia Dean, showcasing her versatility in fashion and performance.
