Becky G made headlines at the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year benefit gala by vocally opposing ICE.
While on the red carpet at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday, January 30, the 28-year-old Mexican-American singer raised her hands for photographers, showcasing fresh nail art that spelled out “F—k ICE,” complementing the gesture with a playful kissy face.
Becky G attended the 35th annual MusiCares gala, honoring Mariah Carey, just two nights before the 68th annual Grammy Awards.
This is not Becky G’s first instance of activism; she previously challenged the Trump administration with her 2015 song “We Are Mexico,” released in response to derogatory comments made by then-Republican presidential nominee about Latinos and Mexican immigrants.
“Hard work, double time, overtime, two jobs, working till our heads hurt, but we ain’t never late to pay the bills,” she sings in the track.
“We Are Mexico” debuted shortly after Trump categorized Mexican immigrants as drug dealers, criminals, and rapists at the onset of his campaign.
Becky G’s latest remarks align her with a wave of artists speaking out against ICE, particularly following recent enforcement operations in Minnesota that resulted in the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
In the wake of these incidents, numerous musicians—including Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Lizzo, Ice-T, Pusha T, Dave Matthews, and Duran Duran—have also condemned ICE, while the Minneapolis community mourns the victims and protests the agency’s activities.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called for the withdrawal of federal agents, stating, “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.”
