Amy Grant Embraces a New Era of Music
Amy Grant considers her latest musical phase to be a “therapeutic” experience. The renowned singer-songwriter is focusing on crafting music that truly resonates with her, allowing her creativity to flourish without constraints.
During the 2026 edition of the Your Roots Are Showing conference in Belfast, Grant expressed her desire to break free from predetermined expectations in her career. “To me, the most important thing about music these days is just making it … the creative process is therapeutic, it’s joyful,” she stated in an interview with PEOPLE.
Grant’s recent single, "The 6th of January (Yasgur’s Farm)," touches on themes of cultural unrest and human connection amidst division. The artist’s nearly five-decade career spans various genres, including Christian and pop music. Now, she emphasizes her refusal to compromise on her sound.
“I would rather sit quietly for half a day and wait on an idea to come together, and then if it doesn’t, don’t force it,” she remarked, highlighting her relaxed yet intentional approach to creativity. Embracing her role as an “observer,” Grant aims to convey narratives that reflect her genuine perspectives. “What I want to do is sing about things that are real … Not be afraid of unrest, to kind of sit in the questions,” she added.
Despite her impressive achievements, including six Grammy Awards, Grant reflects on the challenges she has faced in the past. “There was a certain amount of chasing different production styles, and I just feel firmly in the camp of singer-songwriter now,” she explained, noting a newfound clarity in her creative direction.
As she returns to music after more than a decade, Grant acknowledges the need to adapt to an evolving industry landscape. “I’m making music for the first time in over a decade, so I’m going, ‘Oh, my gosh, I need to learn the ropes again,’” she shared, excited about the journey ahead.
