What to Know
- 27 years have passed since *American Pie* first premiered.
- On January 20, 2026, Jason Biggs discussed his experience explaining the iconic pie scene to his 11-year-old son on SiriusXM’s *The Julia Cunningham Show*.
- The conversation went better than anticipated, even eliciting laughter from the tween.
*American Pie* centered on a group of high school friends navigating the complexities of adolescence, with Jason Biggs portraying Jim, a character known for one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
Recently, the legacy of that infamous moment continued to follow Biggs home. During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s *The Julia Cunningham Show*, the 47-year-old actor shared that he had to explain the notorious pie scene to his oldest son, Sid, whom he shares with his wife, Jenny Mollen.
“They kept hearing about *American Pie* and pie and [asking], ‘Daddy, what do you do with the pie?’ I had to have a conversation with my oldest,” Biggs recounted. “I actually showed him the scene. Jenny and I talked about this, and we were like, ‘We want to get ahead of this.’”

Biggs noted that this conversation was not entirely spontaneous; the film often resurfaces in his life in surprising, and sometimes unsettling, ways.
He recalled a moment when his family was in New York City. “A guy walked past us all and literally screamed out back to me, ‘Hey, it’s the pie f—er,’ and I looked immediately at the boys,” Biggs shared. “They did not hear him, thank god.”
Reflecting on this, Biggs decided it was important to have an open discussion about the scene with his son. “It’s my version of a sex talk, right?” he said. “How much do you want them to hear from friends and other people at school, and how much do you want to control the narrative? It was literally happening with *American Pie*.”

Ultimately, Biggs approached the situation with honesty and humor, despite reliving a challenging moment of his career in front of a younger audience. “He guessed it, so in a way, I almost didn’t control the narrative. But I wanted to ask him first. I said, ‘What do you think happens?’ I was just curious, and he actually guessed correctly,” Biggs revealed.
Biggs described his son as “very embarrassed,” but he made the effort to alleviate the awkwardness by showing him the scene, which elicited laughter. “He was a little uncomfortable for sure,” Biggs admitted, “but he did say I was a good actor.”

In 2017, Biggs expressed to *People* his anticipation of how the infamous pie scene might eventually surface in conversations at home. He shared, “I picture a scenario where it’s like — I don’t know what grade, hopefully a little bit older – but one of his friends can come in and be like, ‘Hey, I saw your dad’s penis on TV last night!’ That’s a very real possibility for our life.”
Biggs found some solace in raising sons, noting, “I’m glad that I have boys versus girls. I don’t know how it’s going to go down, but I know that no matter how it goes down, it’s going to be easier having sons than it would have been having girls.”
