Marcus Alvarado Resigns as Chatsworth High Baseball Coach Amid Parental Complaints
Marcus Alvarado has stepped down as the baseball coach at Chatsworth High School, expressing a loss of passion for the sport largely due to ongoing complaints from parents. In his tenure, Alvarado successfully led the Chancellors to a championship in the 2022 City Section Open Division at Dodger Stadium.
“I’m just tired of hearing parents complain,” Alvarado stated on Friday. “We call it travel ball mentality now. That’s not me.” He plans to devote more time to his family while considering whether he can rediscover his enthusiasm for coaching.
Reflecting on his experience, Alvarado remarked, “It took the love out of the game. I hope to regroup.” Before his role at Chatsworth, he coached at Kennedy High School, where his father, Manny Alvarado, had a notable coaching career.
Chatsworth and El Camino Real hold the distinction of having won the most City Section baseball titles, each claiming nine championships. Tom Meusborn, a coach with eight titles, is now at Sierra Canyon.
In a related development, Gabe Cerna has been replaced by assistant Freddy Flores as the interim coach at Sun Valley Poly. Cerna had been the head coach since 2009, but the school has opted for a new direction.
Furthermore, Doug Bledsoe announced his resignation after one season as the football coach at Narbonne High School, concluding a challenging year in which the Gauchos went winless at 0-10 and faced a three-year playoff ban due to rule violations.
