Maya Rudolph Teams Up with Sabrina Carpenter and Seth Rogen in New Disney+ Special for The Muppet Show
ABC and Disney+ have released a new trailer for the upcoming special of The Muppet Show, a reboot of the beloved classic series. The trailer features Maya Rudolph as a guest star, joining previously announced guests Sabrina Carpenter and Seth Rogen, who is also an executive producer of the show. The special is set to premiere on both ABC and Disney+ on February 4, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original series.
In a light-hearted moment captured in the trailer, Rudolph is seen seated in the audience next to the blue Muppet Grover.
“It’s the return of The Muppet Show back on the very stage where it all started, and then ended, and is maybe starting again, depending on how tonight goes,” Kermit remarks in the clip.
The trailer builds on an earlier teaser that features Rowlf at the piano. “Have you been playing the whole time?” Kermit asks. Rowlf eagerly responds, “Well, what you think it was, some kind of sentimental montage in your head? I’m doing the show again, Frank!”
The original Muppet Show, created by Jim Henson, aired from 1976 to 1981 and was broadcast in over 100 countries. It featured numerous notable guest stars, including Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, and Liza Minnelli. All five seasons of the original series are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
The upcoming special is a collaboration among 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio, and Point Grey Pictures. Directed by Alex Timbers, he also serves as an executive producer. Seth Rogen, along with partners at Point Grey Pictures, and David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, and Michael Steinbach from The Muppets Studio, are also executive producers. Other contributors include Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel, and Eric Jacobson.
