Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Will Create the Music for Netflix’s ‘Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole’ Series
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis to Score Netflix’s Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole
Netflix’s upcoming Norwegian detective drama, Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, will feature an original score by acclaimed musicians Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. The duo is renowned for their previous collaborations on soundtracks for films such as The Proposition, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and Wind River, and are expected to infuse the series with their signature noir style.
Produced by Working Title, the series is adapted from Nesbø’s globally bestselling crime novels. It stars Tobias Santelmann in the role of Harry Hole, an anti-hero detective who faces off against his longtime foe, corrupt detective Tom Waaler, portrayed by Joel Kinnaman. As Hole pursues a serial killer, he must also seek justice against Waaler.
Other notable cast members include Pia Tjelta, Anders Baasmo, Ellen Helinder, Simon J. Berger, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, and Kelly Gale. The series is directed by Anna Zackrisson and Øystein Karlsen, with Nesbø serving as writer and creator. Tor Arne Øvrebø is producing for Working Title, alongside Universal International Studios. Executive producers include Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Karlsen, Nesbø, and Niclas Salomonsson.
Cave expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We loved working on this adaptation. Harry Hole’s murky, morally-complex world has been brought to life in all its darkly brutal glory, and it was an honour to work with the legendary Jo Nesbø.”
Nick Cave, an Australian singer-songwriter and frontman of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, has garnered acclaim for iconic tracks like "Into My Arms," "The Mercy Seat," and "Red Right Hand," many of which have been featured in film and television. Along with Ellis, he has worked on various soundtracks.
Nesbø commented, “Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are masters at conjuring mood and tension, and their music is the ideal companion to Harry Hole’s brooding, enigmatic journey through the shadows of Oslo. Their music has always been a soundtrack to my writing process. To have them now scoring the world of Harry Hole feels both surreal and absolutely right.”
The nine-episode series is slated to premiere on Netflix on March 26.
