Mina Starsiak Hawk Reflects on ‘Good Bones’ After Its Final Episode
Mina Starsiak Hawk shared her feelings about the conclusion of her long-running HGTV series, Good Bones, in a recent interview with PEOPLE. Two years after the show’s final episode, she expressed deep nostalgia for the experience: "I miss everything other than the interpersonal issues," she stated, adding, "I loved making the show."
Starsiak Hawk was candid about the challenges she faced while filming the eighth and final season, which aired in October 2023. Alongside family conflicts, she noted that financial pressures greatly impacted the production. "When I started, the real estate market was a different world; construction costs were different," she explained. "Towards the last couple of seasons, the margins were so tight. There just wasn’t really money to be made, and that was stressful."
Looking ahead, Starsiak Hawk will appear in the upcoming seventh season of HGTV’s Rock the Block, describing the filming process as enjoyable. "I never set out to make TV, but I enjoy it, and Rock the Block is not my money and it’s not my house. So it’s just the fun parts," she remarked.
Starsiak Hawk co-founded her Indianapolis-based company, Two Chicks and a Hammer, with her mother, Karen E. Laine, in 2007. Although Laine stepped back from the company in 2019, she continued to appear on Good Bones.
In August 2023, she revealed on her podcast, Mina AF, that tensions with her family, including Laine and her brother Tad, had impacted her personal life. However, she noted that they are making strides to mend their relationship. "It took us a lot of time to get there, so I think it takes a lot of time to kind of get out of it as well," she said, adding that they spent the holidays together and are now on amicable terms. "We’re not like best friends that braid each other’s hair on Saturday nights or anything, but no, it’s good," she added.
Starsiak Hawk and her husband, Steve Hawk, who have two children—Jack, 7, and Charlie, 5—have also been contemplating their lives since the show’s conclusion. Reflecting on the past two years, she stated, "I’ve been saying, ‘Once it slows down, I’ll figure out my new normal.’ And it hasn’t. And I think it might this year, but I don’t know."
Rock the Block season 7 is set to premiere in early 2026 on HGTV.
