Tony Dokoupil, the New CBS Evening News Anchor, Set to Sit Down with Donald Trump
UPDATED: Newly appointed CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil conducted an interview with former President Donald Trump at a Ford factory in Dearborn, Michigan. This segment is set to air during Tuesday night’s broadcast.
Dokoupil shared on X, “I just met President Donald J. Trump at a Ford factory in Dearborn, MI to talk about Iran, the economy and Fed Chair Jerome Powell.”

As part of his initial tour as anchor, Dokoupil has been visiting major cities. He has previously interviewed several former officials from the Trump administration, including border czar Tom Homan and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
In November, Trump participated in an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Norah O’Donnell, which attracted 14 million viewers. The former president has had a contentious relationship with CBS, particularly over the editing of an interview with Kamala Harris, who is now his political rival for the 2024 election. Trump has sued the network for billions, following a $16 million settlement reached with parent company Paramount last summer.
Trump’s appearance in Detroit is part of a broader White House initiative aimed at redirecting focus toward the administration’s economic agenda.
