Teyana Taylor Celebrates Her Brown Sisters After Winning Her First Golden Globe for ‘One Battle After Another’: “We Belong In Every Room We Enter”
In a historic moment, Teyana Taylor garnered her first Golden Globe award tonight for her role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.
Taylor delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech, particularly resonating with her closing remarks: “To my brown sisters, and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into, our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”
The actress expressed her gratitude towards Anderson, referring to him endearingly as “Paul ‘Let Him Cook’ Thomas Anderson.” She praised his vision and trust in her performance, adding, “My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you, and thank you so much for holding space for me.”
Taylor also took a moment to thank God, stating, “I praise you for every part of this faith walk — every test and every lesson.” Additionally, she playfully addressed her children, urging them to pay attention, saying, “Y’all better be off your damn phones and watching me right now.”
This award marks Taylor’s first nomination at the Golden Globes, where she triumphed in the Best Supporting Motion Picture Actress – Drama category, competing against notable actors such as Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine), Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), and Amy Madigan (Weapons). Taylor has emerged as one of the standout performers of the awards season, with additional nominations from the Critics Choice Awards and the Actors Awards.
Loosely adapted from Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, One Battle After Another tells the story of former revolutionaries who come together to rescue one of their own’s daughter after a long-buried threat resurfaces. The film features a star-studded cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Taylor, and Chase Infiniti in her feature debut. Since its release by Warner Bros. in September, the film has grossed over $206 million worldwide.
