Cynthia Nixon is a devoted mother of three children: Seph, Charles, and Max. The acclaimed actress, best known for her role in Sex and the City, welcomed her two older children, Seph and Charles, with her ex-partner Danny Mozes in 1996 and 2002, respectively. After her separation from Mozes, Nixon began a relationship with Christine Marinoni, with whom she shares Max, born in 2011.
While Nixon tends to keep her family life private, she has expressed her love for motherhood. In a 2008 interview with Parents, she stated, “Being a mother was something that I always knew I was going to do. I went into parenthood thinking, ‘This is something I’m really up for.’”
Nixon’s experiences as a mother have played a significant role in her personal growth. In a 2018 interview with Vice, she discussed how parenting her children has bolstered her self-esteem. “What happened essentially is, I was a daughter for a long time and then I became a mother and I became my own mother,” Nixon shared. “I became more comfortable with the idea of my own opinion mattering and being able to say it out loud.”

Nixon and Mozes welcomed Samuel "Seph" Joseph Mozes in November 1996. Raised in New York, Seph attended the University of Chicago. In June 2018, Nixon celebrated Trans Day of Action by revealing that Seph is transgender. She shared a throwback photo on Instagram from his college graduation, stating, “I’m so proud of my son Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month. I salute him and everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction.”
Nixon has frequently discussed how her activism aligns with her role as a parent. In December 2023, she participated in a hunger strike advocating for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an action encouraged by Seph. "I am the mother of two Jewish children whose grandparents are Holocaust survivors," she explained during an appearance on The View. “My oldest son, in particular, he really has been reaching out to my wife and I and asking us — imploring us, really — to say, ‘Use your voice to affirm as loudly as you can that ‘never again’ means ‘never again’ for anyone.’”

Nixon’s middle child, Charles Ezekial Mozes, was born in December 2002. Notably, she was pregnant with Charles while filming the fourth season of Sex and the City. Rather than conceal her pregnancy, the show incorporated it into the storyline, portraying her character, Miranda Hobbes, as pregnant.
While Charles leads a relatively private life, Nixon has noted his passion for comedy. In a 2018 interview, she described him as a typical teenager, often found "in his room a lot." She remarked, "He always has funny things to show me on the internet. He’s very into Eric Andre — he’s very funny, so he’s been showing me a lot." Additionally, Charles enjoys music; in December 2019, Nixon celebrated his 17th birthday by posting a photo of him holding a cake decorated like a record, highlighting his love of vinyl.

Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni was born in February 2011, the youngest of Nixon’s children. The Emmy Award-winning actress frequently shares glimpses of their adventures around New York City. In June 2021, she posted a series of photos on Instagram featuring Max dancing in the streets after watching In The Heights. "Back in 2007, I saw a little musical off-broadway called In The Heights. It was electric," she recalled. "Felt pure joy all over again last night when Max and I saw @InTheHeightsMovie on the big screen at their premiere. We literally left the theater dancing."
In a heartwarming shared moment, Nixon captured a video of Max waving a pride flag on a New York City sidewalk, celebrating the end of Pride month. She remarked, "Happy end of Pride y’all. Hope you had an amazing weekend. I know we did." Max has also joined his mother on the red carpet, notably appearing at the world premiere of And Just Like That… in December 2021.
As a devoted mother, Nixon exemplifies how family and activism intertwine in her life, demonstrating a commitment to both her children and the causes she supports.
