Cher Reflects on Relationship with David Geffen
Cher recently opened up about her past relationship with entertainment mogul David Geffen, describing it as a "special arrangement." During an appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, she shared personal insights into their two-year romance in the 1970s.
The 79-year-old singer revealed, "I was the first person that he had real feelings for," emphasizing the uniqueness of their bond. Cher dated Geffen shortly after separating from her first husband, Sonny Bono. In the podcast, she elaborated on her past, indicating that her time with Geffen marked a significant departure from her previous experiences.
Cher noted, "Honest, it’s a different thing because he never had been in love with anybody." She explained that they had formed a distinct connection upon meeting, contrasting her relationship with Bono.
Cher’s emotional investment in Geffen was evident when she recalled, "I was the first person to share his bed and to share his life. People don’t believe that… But we were really crazy about each other." In a biography about Geffen, she described the depth of their feelings for one another.
During the podcast, Cher also mentioned how Geffen was instrumental in helping her navigate the business complexities during her separation from Bono. They attended the 1974 Grammys as a couple, marking a high point in their relationship.
Despite their split, the two maintained a friendly bond over the years. She labeled Geffen as a "wonderful" person and expressed her fondness for him, asserting that their past was filled with genuine emotions.
Cher is currently in a relationship with music executive Alexander "AE" Edwards, while Geffen’s recent marriage to David Armstrong was terminated on November 24 after two years, citing irreconcilable differences.
Cher’s reflections invite contemplation on the nuances of love and companionship, showcasing how even unconventional relationships can be profound and meaningful.
