Jordan Shipley, Former NFL Player, Faces Serious Health Challenges After Ranch Accident
Former NFL Player Jordan Shipley Hospitalized Following Ranch Accident
Two-time All-American wide receiver and Outdoors Channel host Jordan Shipley is currently in critical condition following an accident at his ranch in Burnet, Texas, according to a statement from his family.
Shipley, 40, remains hospitalized in Austin and is reported to be stable after suffering severe burns. The incident occurred when a machine he was operating caught fire. Despite the severity of his injuries, he managed to escape and was subsequently airlifted to a local hospital.
In a statement from his family, it was revealed that Shipley was able to seek help from a worker at the ranch, who transported him to a nearby medical facility. "He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition," the statement noted.
Jordan Shipley, a notable figure in college football, had a standout career at the University of Texas from 2006 to 2009, where he set single-season records with 116 receptions and 1,489 receiving yards in 2009. He concluded his college career as the program’s all-time leader in receptions with 248.
After being drafted in the third round by the Cincinnati Bengals, Shipley enjoyed a promising start in the NFL, notably recording 52 receptions for 600 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season in 2010. However, injuries, including a significant knee injury early in the 2011 season, hampered his career, leading to his retirement in 2012.
Transitioning to a career in television, Shipley hosted programs that highlighted his passion for the outdoors, co-hosting shows such as “The Bucks of Tecomate” and “Tecomate Whitetail Nation.” Reflecting on his career shift, he stated, “It was not hard at all. I never saw myself as a football player first. I was actually pretty excited about moving forward.”
Shipley’s younger brother, Jaxon Shipley, a former Texas wide receiver himself, has called for prayers on social media. He expressed gratitude that Jordan survived the ordeal, stating, "I don’t want to get into all the details, other than his life was spared today by the grace of God and the sheer will to live."
As the situation develops, the family remains hopeful for his recovery.
