Jimmy Kimmel Calls on Donald Trump to Stick to His Promise After Kennedy Center Honors Ratings Disappoint
Jimmy Kimmel responded to Donald Trump’s recent performance as host of the Kennedy Center Honors, offering commentary during his show on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! The late-night host pointed out that Trump’s hosting was marked by notably low ratings.
“After boasting about what a great host he is – and how much better he is than I am and how huge his ratings would be – Trump hosted the lowest-rated Kennedy Center Honors telecast of all time,” Kimmel remarked. “Let me tell you something, I’d hate to be the White House intern who had to tear that headline out of all the papers and eat ’em.”
Kimmel also referenced Trump’s previous claim that he would step down from the presidency if he failed to outperform Kimmel in ratings. “He said, ‘If I can’t beat out Jimmy Kimmel, then I don’t think I should be president.’ Well, hey! A deal is a deal! Back to Mar-A-Lago you go!” Kimmel quipped.
Following Kimmel’s critique, Trump expressed his views on several hosts, stating, “Jimmy Kimmel was horrible… If I can’t beat out Jimmy Kimmel in terms of talent, then I don’t think I should be president.”
Kimmel further lampooned Trump’s self-involved comments regarding Santa Claus, noting that the president had boasted about his election votes to children calling the Santa Tracker Hotline. He also took aim at Trump’s Christmas Day greeting, which included a remark about “the many sleazebags who loved Jeffrey Epstein.”
“Leave it to Trump,” Kimmel joked, “to wish a Merry Christmas to himself.”
