Petition to Deport Nicki Minaj Gathers Thousands of Supporters
Tens of thousands are advocating for Nicki Minaj’s deportation, according to a petition gaining traction on Change.org. Since Minaj’s appearance at the Turning Point USA AmericaFest event in Phoenix on December 21, nearly 50,000 individuals have signed the online petition, urging her return to her home country of Trinidad. The rapper, who moved to the United States at age five, revealed in a 2024 livestream that she still does not hold U.S. citizenship.
The petition, published on December 27 and accompanied by a photo of Minaj interacting with fellow participant Erika Kirk, states, “This is personal for those of us who watched Nicki rise as a beacon of hope, only to feel abandoned by her shift in values.”
It emphasizes the weight and responsibility of her public platform, describing how recent statements have contrasted sharply with her prior expressions of solidarity, leaving many disheartened. “Deporting Nicki Minaj back to Trinidad would serve as a reminder that public figures need to be accountable for their words and the broader impact they have on diverse communities,” the petition asserts.
Billboard has reached out to Minaj’s representatives for a response.
Many signatories of the petition expressed their disappointment regarding Minaj’s recent alignment with Turning Point and its affiliations with the Trump administration, notorious for its aggressive stance on immigration, including numerous ICE raids and mass deportations. Previously, Minaj had criticized these policies, drawing from her own experience as an immigrant. In 2018, she shared on Instagram, “I came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5.”
However, her stance appears to have shifted. Shortly before commending Trump and Vice President JD Vance as “role models” at Turning Point USA, Minaj praised the administration’s efforts regarding the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Following this, she addressed the issue at a United Nations event in New York.
“I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue,” Minaj stated at the November event. “And his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria and to combat extremism and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to express their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.”
